Cabrillo High School Stadium Improvement Project

About

Cabrillo High School, a cornerstone of our community since 1965, has long been in need of an upgrade to its athletic facilities. The Cabrillo Stadium Improvement Project represents a landmark initiative to transform our outdated field and track into a state-of-the-art venue for sports, marching band performances, and community events. Spearheaded by the Cabrillo Athletic Field and Track Fundraising Committee (CAFTFC) in collaboration with Lompoc Unified School District, this project is a testament to our commitment to excellence in education and community well-being.

Overview

The Cabrillo Stadium Improvement Project aims to install a synthetic turf athletic field and a polyurethane all-weather 7-lane track. These upgrades will not only enhance the athletic experience for our students but also offer a venue for physical education classes and community health programs. The project is a joint effort between CAFTFC, Lompoc Unified School District, and the supportive Lompoc community, with a total estimated cost of $2.8 million.

The Improvements

Synthetic Turf Athletic Field: The installation of a synthetic turf field will provide a durable, weather-resistant surface for football, soccer, and other field sports. This modernization will allow for year-round usage, reducing maintenance costs and water usage.

Polyurethane All-Weather Track: Upgrading to a 7-lane polyurethane track will meet current CIF standards, enabling Cabrillo High to host track and field meets. This improvement will significantly enhance the training and competitive experience for our student athletes.

Additional Features: The project also includes the installation of shot put pads and rings, goal posts, a high jump area, long & triple jump runs, and an electronic scoreboard. These enhancements will further expand the capabilities of our athletic facilities.

Fundraising and Community Support

With an estimated total cost of $2.8 million, the Lompoc Unified School District has generously committed $1.4 million. The CAFTFC is dedicated to raising the matching funds through community donations, corporate sponsorships, and grants. Our fundraising campaign has garnered tremendous support, reflecting the community's enthusiasm for this transformative project. Every contribution brings us closer to our goal and reinforces the spirit of unity and pride in our community.

Tobyn - Student Athelete

"Having to travel to Lompoc High School for all of our home games eliminates the feeling of it being home games. As a Cabrillo Athlete there is no sense of pride to play our games at our rival high school not to mention the travel logistics of getting athletes downtown, safety issues due to athletic trainers not being available, and oftentimes the scoreboard not being on making me and other Cabrillo athletes feel as if our games are not a priorety"

Joanne - Cabrillo Student

"As a highly involved student, who happens to not be an athlete, I strongly believe that a new stadium is vital. In terms of facilities, outsiders tend to be more drawn to our rival school, as they have their own field. This takes attention away from Cabrillo's other incredible programs, such as our one of a kind Aquarium."

Keylan - Student Athlete

"The stadium facilities at Cabrillo are not up to standard and are in desperate need of renovation. Whenever the track or football field are in use, athletes have to worry about potentially injuring themselves instead of focusing on their practice. Additionally, the lack of a proper stadium discourages many potential athletes from particiapating in sports. A renovation for our stadium would cause Cabrillo students to participate in sports more, injure themselves less, and have more respect for our school."

Brynn - Student Athelete

"I play soccer and run track at Cabrillo. We are in desperate need of an all weather track and safe field. In fact, we are the only high school in Santa Barbara County that does not have an all weather track. Our fields are so dangerous and unsafe, we had a soccer team show up for a game, and the coach refused to let his team play due to our field conditions. We are never able to host track meets and my last soccer season we had to play our home games at Lompoc. This doesn't allow for many students to come out and support our sports."
